Have you ever gotten your family in their coordinating outfits, taken extra time on your hair and makeup only to find that the extra care you took didn’t show up in the photos? Well I am here to help you with that!

I booked a real life professional photographer this year!! Yep, I feel all adult and stuff. I have taken our yearly family photos every year with a tripod and a remote and while the have been good, I really wanted to have a professional capture our family this year. Since we are paying this year I want to make sure that I feel confident and beautiful when I hang these photos on our wall. So, here are the things I will be doing to make sure that my effort shows up on camera.

  1. First things first, like any other time, the most important step in great makeup is great skincare! So the day before, exfoliate, hydrate and moisturize. Getting rid of any dry or dull skin is going to give you a glow and create a smooth even base for you makeup the day of. Please drink lots of water the day before and day of, hydrating your skin comes form within.

  2. Use cream makeup! I know, I know you are probably reading this to late, to run out and buy all new makeup, but there is always next year and everyday in between. Cream makeup gives you coverage, but it also looks like your skin. Powder and Liquid foundation are drying to your skin and may make you look dull or one dimensional.

  3. Now, that brings me to contour. Contour to make sure the camera sees the beautiful dimension in your face and brings the attention to your best features! Plus Contour will make your makeup look more natural and beautiful, so it will stand the test of time. Your kids will look back at these photos one day and see their beautiful mother, not her dated makeup.

  4. Wear false lashes. If you usually wear them great! If you don’t, I promise they wont look to big or to much. The difference will be that the camera will be able to see them, while it probably wont pick up your natural lashes. You wont regret it I promise!

  5. Make sure your neck matches your face. If your face is a bit darker with your foundation, you can easily add some bronzer to your neck and chest to match the tone. If you are great about sunscreen on your face but have a tan chest, add some bronzer to your face. Bronzer is your best friend.

  6. Skip the SPF, I know, I know any other day I will always tell you to bathe in SPF and protect your skin. But have you ever taken a photo and looked at it later and realized that you had a strange chalky appearance that you didn’t have when you looked in the mirror. That is the glare of your SPF, it happens more often when the photographer uses a flash, but you don’t want to risk it.

  7. The 30% more rule, whatever you are doing with your hair or your makeup do 30% more, go 30% bigger. Use this rule getting ready. Use 30% more blush and contour, eyeshadow then you would for your everyday makeup. Use some texture spray in your hair and make it 30% bigger. This trick will have your looking fantastic!
