The Secret to Making Long Wear Lipstick Not Suck

When you live in the desert, dryness isn’t just part of the landscape it is part of everyday life. When I moved back to the high desert after spending 3 years living on the coast, I had to slather myself with lotion and face cream, conditioner, only to end up dryer that my moisture free self on the coast. My lips were my biggest source of struggle, they were constantly dry and without constant chapstick they would crack and peel. I gave up on lipstick and bough enough chapstick to put in every purse, coat pocked, desk drawer, car cubby and pants pocket that I had. I got a few tented chapsticks, so I got the look of a lipstick without the dryness.

I like lipstick, I especially like lipstick that lasts, I hate having to reapply. I really learned to love long wear liquid lipsticks, but they dried me out so much that I avoided them. Until about 6 months ago when I got a sample of BKR Paris Water Balm. It was a tiny little pot of clear gloss and I remember thinking, ok another gloss that won’t last. I decided to try it one morning with my Maskcara lip colors and I was a bit surprised, it wasn’t high gloss and it was much thicker than I expected. Even as thick at is was, it didn’t feel heavy. My lips felt hydrated all morning, I didn’t have to apply chapstick 4 times.

I decided to give this magic little BKR Balm a try with a long wear lipstick, I had just gotten a new color I wanted to try, I put on the balm first and the long wear liquid lipstick after, it went on like a dream. I was so surprised, I assumed because of the balm it would wear off quickly, it didn’t, even drinking coffee and water all morning, it lasted until I ate lunch. I was amazed!

My new secret weapon, stayed in my makeup bag and every morning I would put it on and then apply whatever lip color I wanted for the day. After 3 months I was about half way through the .07 ounce pot of balm and decided I should probably order more. When I pulled up the companies website I was again surprised. I expected a full array of cosmetics but BKR was focused purely on hydration. There theory is that hydration of your lips and skin starts with hydration of your body. They sell cute glass water bottles with the water balm built into the lid. It is adorable and fantastic idea. While I think their bottles are adorable, I know myself and I drink much more water with a straw, so I will stick with my Zak! cup from Target with a stainless steel straw. However, I can’t live without the Water Balm!

You can get the balm in 2 sizes, the .o7 oz sample size for $10 and the regular .4 oz size for $22. As long as the small size has lasted me I am guessing the large size would last over six months with conservative use. They also offer a 3 pack, with 3 colors (the original clear, a soft peachy nude color and soft rose) currently available for $22, this is what I got and I love it! The tinted colors are beautiful by themselves or beautiful with a lip color underneath and they are just as hydrating and long lasting as the original color.

If you have dry lips or love long wear liquid lipstick I really think the BKR Paris Water Balm is a must have for your makeup bag!  Check out their site for yourself: https://mybkr.com/collections/balm
