Easy Messy Space Buns Tutorial

Lately my hair has been up more than down. Instead of just tossing it up in a messy bun or a ponytail, I’ve been trying to make it look like I made an effort without actually making to much of an effort.

I just made it into my third trimester with baby number two and I am tired and sleeping in sounds way better than washing, drying and styling my hair. To be honest, I felt this way when I wasn’t pregnant, but lately stretching my hair into day 5 with out washing sounds even better. I even rocked 5 day hair for our family photos, seriously, this is a whole new level of lazy hair even for me. Can you tell??

I also don’t want to look like a total slob at work! So I’ve been trying out a bunch of different braids and simple updos that take less than 5 minutes. Easy and fast, is key to these hairstyles, otherwise I loose patience and will toss it up in a 20 seconds messy bun and go to work. I have no shame when it comes to not caring about my appearance in my third trimester or second or first or soon, my new mom un showered greasy hair.

Can you stretch your hair into day 5? A few years ago I didn’t think it was possible, but I have totally changed my routine and it has become possible and easy. Here are the things I’ve changed:

  • Sulfate free shampoo and silicone free conditioner

  • Regular deep conditioning

  • Leave in conditioner ( I use the same conditioner as above as a leave in because it is a quality conditioner it is a great leave in too)

  • Good dry shampoo (it doesn’t have to be expensive)

  • Good hairspray, try alcohol free

  • Bobble hair band or scrunchy and satin or silk pillow case for sleeping

Right after washing, I either air dry or blow dry and use a wand to add waves, spray with hair spray. On the second day I can usually just add a bit of dry shampoo, brush and go. Day three I might touch up a few waves and fix some of the slept on pieces. Day four and five are usually dry shampoo and half up or full updo.

Surprisingly the updo style I have received the most compliments on was this easy half up space buns with Dutch braids. So I thought I would share the quick tutorial here. Please drop a comment and let me know what you think!
